DEEP-FRIED TWINKIES

DEEP-FRIED TWINKIES

INGREDIENTS:

6 Twinkies

Popsicle sticks

4 cups vegetable oil

Flour for dusting

Batter

1 egg

2/3 cup milk

2 Tablespoons sugar

1 1/4 cup flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

Directions:

1. Chill or freeze Twinkies for several hours or overnight.

1. In a deep skillet, heat about toil over medium-high heat until hot. Test the temperature by dropping a pinch of flour into the hot oil. If it sizzles right away without smoking, it’s perfect.

2. Beat egg and milk. Mix all other ingredients in a separate bowl and slowly add to the egg mixture, beating until smooth.

3. . Push sticks into Twinkies lengthwise, leaving about 2 inches to use as a handle, dust with flour and dip into the batter. Rotate Twinkie until batter covers entire cake.

4. Place carefully in hot oil. The Twinkie will float, so hold it under with a utensil to ensure even browning. It should turn golden in 3 to 4 minutes. Depending on the size of your deep fryer, you might be able to fry only one at a time, two at the most.

5. Remove Twinkie to paper towel and let drain.

6. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.

The White Trash Tsunami Is Sweeping Over The World

White Trash and proud of it!

I don’t mean “White Trash” in the usual way, I am a white chick, lower middle class all my life and I have learned to live on less and love it. I appreciate the little things in life, I reuse, repurpose, and recycle not because I am a green liberal tree hugger but because I have had to do that all my life. It is a quest for me to save money by thrift store shopping, yard sale shopping, dumpster diving, or just getting free stuff that someone gave me because it was broken. That way I am compelled to learn how to fix it, this would include laptop computer, personal computers, lawnmowers, clothing, Christmas decorations and it goes on and on. Case in point I was given a wonderful dog house for my dog many years ago. My dog Tina lived 19 years and died last year. She was a great ole dog and I really loved her. I still had the dog house so since I have 3 bunnies I repurposed the dog house by adding some rabbit fencing on the outside and chicken wire on the top to keep the birds of prey away from my bunnies. They love it, and it works. Does it look great? No, but it works.
